These are some problems I frequently help people with. (See Services Provided for other problem areas and more details.) If you're having any of these types of problems, therapy can help. Starting therapy can be a BIG step toward getting support, feeling better, finding new ways to deal with problems and stressful situations, and making positive changes in your life. Here's good news for you: Research clearly indicates that most people benefit from counseling / psychotherapy.
Each course of therapy is different, depending on who you are and what you need help with. Central to good therapy, though, is having someone you are comfortable talking to, and central to my work is being a good listener - attentive, non-judgmental, respectful, and supportive. (In couples or marital therapy, I listen in this way to each person, seeking to understand each person's perspective.)
That's not to say it's easy to start therapy: The therapist initially is a stranger, and people typically are coming to talk about pretty personal problems that they may not feel good about. But I believe I'm good at helping people to feel more at ease, quickly conveying that I'm there to understand and help rather than to judge. See

In contrast to a big clinic, I am an independent provider with a private waiting room that overlooks a pleasant courtyard. When you call me, you reach my confidential voicemail, and I call you back directly. I can often schedule an appointment within several days, and I offer some evening appointments.
